Marijuana cosmetics are banned

On May 28, the National Medical Products Administration officially updated the list of banned ingredients for cosmetics, which gave a final word on the use of hemp products. In the future, cannabidiol, hemp seeds, hemp seed oil, hemp leaf extract, etc. will be officially listed as banned raw materials for cosmetics.

In order to further strengthen the management of cosmetic raw materials and ensure the quality and safety of cosmetics, and in accordance with the relevant provisions of the “Regulations on Supervision and Administration of Cosmetics”, the State Drug Administration has organized a review of the “Prohibited Components of Cosmetics” in Chapter 2 of the “Cosmetic Safety Technical Specifications (2015 Edition)”. Table 1) “Prohibited Plant (Animal) Ingredients in Cosmetics (Table 2)” was revised to form the “List of Prohibited Cosmetics (Animal) Ingredients” and “List of Prohibited Plants (Animal) Ingredients in Cosmetics”, and today (May 28) Japan) to be released to replace the original list of prohibited components, and to be included in the corresponding chapters of the “Code”


Among them, the industry is most concerned about the prohibition of cannabis-related raw materials. The new version of the “List of Prohibited Cosmetics Raw Materials” orders the prohibition of cannabidiol Cannabidiol (CAS No. 13956-29-1).


The new version of the “Catalogue of Prohibited Plant (Animal) Raw Materials for Cosmetics” expressly prohibits the use of hemp seeds (CANNABIS SATIVA FRUIT), hemp seed oil (CANNABIS SATIVASEED OIL), and hemp leaf extract (CANNABIS SATIVA LEAF EXTRACT).


Cannabidiol (also referred to as the CBD component in the industry) is a cannabis with a tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content of less than 0.3%. It is a safe non-addictive substance and belongs to more than one hundred “phytocannabinoids” One of them.
